Clutch control and hill starts

← Understand your car and road life
Clutch control and hill starts
  1. The clutch connects or separates engine torque from the gearbox. The biting point is a transition, not a parking brake; prolonged slipping creates heat and wear.
  2. Hold a stationary car on a hill with the appropriate brake, not throttle balanced against a slipping clutch. Learn the vehicle-specific release sequence with an instructor before practising on the road.
  3. Hill-start assistance normally holds only temporarily and has activation conditions. Do not assume it is active or can replace securing a parked vehicle. If the engine stalls, secure the car before restarting.
