Understand your car and road life
Road-life decision workshop
Make one decision at a time. Learn from each result, retry mistakes and keep your completed training report.
Start a situation →Interactive car laboratory
Change a control and observe why the result changes. These are simplified teaching models, not measurements for a real vehicle.
Interactive car laboratory →1 · Know and operate the vehicle
How the engine moves the car
In a four-stroke engine the piston takes in air, compresses it, receives combustion force and expels exhaust. The crankshaft converts piston movement to rotation.
Open lesson →2 · 0 / 3Manual gearbox and clutch
The clutch temporarily disconnects engine torque from the gearbox. Depress it fully before selecting a gear; observe the gear pattern in this vehicle.
Open lesson →3 · 0 / 3Automatic: P R N D
P locks the parking mechanism, R reverses, N is neutral and D drives forward. Use the right foot for brake and accelerator; keep the left foot on its rest.
Open lesson →4 · 0 / 3Brakes, ABS and stopping distance
The pedal operates a hydraulic braking system in typical cars. Pads squeeze discs, converting motion into heat. The parking brake holds a stationary car.
Open lesson →5 · 0 / 3Lights and dashboard warnings
Identify dipped beam, main beam, position lights, indicators, hazards and fog lights before driving. Dashboard symbols and automatic settings vary: consult the handbook.
Open lesson →6 · 0 / 3Petrol, diesel, hybrid and refuelling
Petrol engines typically use spark ignition; diesel engines ignite injected fuel through compressed hot air. Use only the fuel specified on the filler flap and handbook.
Open lesson →7 · 0 / 3Steering, tyres and grip
The steering wheel moves the front wheels through the steering mechanism. Power assistance reduces effort; it does not create tyre grip.
Open lesson →8 · 0 / 3Before the first metre
Walk around before entering: look for people, low obstacles, leaks and obvious tyre damage. Choose a safe loading position; secure loose objects.
Open lesson →9 · 0 / 3Dashboard: warning or normal operation?
Read the symbol, colour and message together. A brief ignition self-test differs from a warning that stays on after starting. Consult the vehicle handbook.
Open lesson →10 · 0 / 3Tyres, grip and wet roads
Check cold tyre pressure using the vehicle placard/handbook, including the load setting. The sidewall maximum is not your routine target.
Open lesson →11 · 0 / 3Hybrid and electric: READY, charging and safety
A hybrid may be ready to move without engine sound. Read READY and the gear position; silence does not mean switched off.
Open lesson →12 · 0 / 3Night, fog and a clear windscreen
Clean windows, mirrors, lamps and camera lenses. Clear mist and ice before moving; a small clear patch does not provide a safe field of view.
Open lesson →2 · Parking in daily life
Blue parking disc
Read the sign and supplementary panel first. Unless otherwise signed, blue-zone disc rules normally apply 09:00–18:00 on working days, including Saturday, with a two-hour maximum; local signs may change times and duration.
Open lesson →2 · 0 / 1Paying for parking
Check that parking is allowed for your vehicle, then read tariff, chargeable hours, maximum stay, zone code and exemptions on the actual sign or meter. Prices vary by municipality.
Open lesson →3 · Hazards and after an accident
Breakdown: protect people before the vehicle
If possible, move out of live traffic without abrupt manoeuvres. Use hazard lights and secure the vehicle. A hard shoulder is not a normal resting place.
Open lesson →2 · 0 / 1Hazards, first aid and emergency calls
Protect yourself first: stop safely, avoid traffic, fire and electrical hazards, and warn others without entering danger. At an unsafe motorway scene, wait behind a barrier where possible.
Open lesson →3 · 0 / 1Accident report and evidence
Make the scene safe and obtain urgent help first. Exchange driver, vehicle and insurer details; identify witnesses and photograph positions, signs and damage only when safe.
