Plan motorway entries and exits

Reason from the conditions, not from a memorised answer. Read the scene, choose, then open the explanation. The drawing is illustrative; the written conditions control the question.

Plan motorway entries and exits

1

Use the acceleration lane to observe traffic, build an appropriate speed and identify a safe gap. Matching speed does not give priority over vehicles already on the motorway.

2

An ordinary motorway entry is not automatically a zipper merge. With normally flowing main traffic, the joining driver yields and must not force others into abrupt braking or lane changes.

3

Read exit information early, check mirrors, signal and move into position safely. If the exit cannot be reached legally, continue; do not reverse or cross prohibited separation markings.

Question 1 · Advanced scenarios

You join using an acceleration lane while motorway traffic flows normally. May you require the adjacent driver to change lanes for you?

  1. No; I yield and find a safe gap.
  2. Yes; indicating creates entry priority.
  3. Yes; zipper alternation applies to every entry.

Correct answer: A

Use the acceleration lane to observe traffic, build an appropriate speed and identify a safe gap. Matching speed does not give priority over vehicles already on the motorway. An ordinary motorway entry is not automatically a zipper merge. With normally flowing main traffic, the joining driver yields and must not force others into abrupt braking or lane changes.
